Survey reports, charter books (where applicable), and refit records available to qualified buyers under NDA.

What Makes a Phinisi a “Buyer-Vetted” Listing

Most yacht-broker websites publish listings supplied by sellers without independent verification. Photos may be 3-6 years old. Specifications may be aspirational rather than as-built. Charter income claims may be gross-of-everything rather than realistic-after-cost. We don’t list a phinisi until our brokerage team has physically inspected it, photographed current condition, verified specifications, and confirmed (where claimed) charter income data.

Our buyer-vetting protocol covers: hull and rigging condition assessment with photographs (caulking, planking, mast, standing/running rigging, sail wardrobe condition), mechanicals and electronics inventory (engine hours, generator hours, electronics make/model/age, watermaker capacity), interior layout drawing and finish quality assessment, charter book verification (if operating yacht — last 24 months booking data and review profile), refit history documentation, current operating crew profile (if continuing crew is part of deal), and seller motivation assessment (timeline, flexibility on price, contingencies acceptable).

Inspection Trip Logistics

Once we have qualified your engagement, we schedule a 4-7 day Indonesia inspection trip. Standard itinerary: Bali (Day 1 — review brokerage office, discuss shortlist), Bira shipyard visit (Days 2-3 — inspect new-build candidates and refit yards via Makassar-Bulukumba ground transport), Labuan Bajo (Days 4-6 — inspect operating yachts in Komodo Luxury and partner-fleet docks), Bali return + debrief (Day 7).

Trip travel cost (flights, hotel, ground transport USD 4,500-7,500 typical) is yours. Our broker time, logistics arrangement, surveyor coordination, and yacht-owner introductions are included in our engagement fee. Most buyers we work with travel with one technical advisor (their personal yacht surveyor or maritime attorney) — we accommodate joint inspections.

What Happens After You Find the Yacht

Independent surveyor inspection (1-2 weeks post selection, USD 8-18k cost). Survey report review with you. Sea trial 2-4 hours under sail and engine. Structured offer drafted as deal memo with specific contingencies (survey findings remediation, crew transition terms, refit credits, closing conditions). Negotiation typical 2-4 rounds over 15-30 days. Escrow opening at Indonesian tier-1 bank with 10% deposit. PMA setup if not already in place (parallel track with closing prep, 6-10 weeks). Flag registration. Final closing wire and vessel handover. Crew transition.

Imagine the scent of teak wood mingling with the salty air as your private Phinisi yacht, a marvel of traditional craftsmanship, gently navigates the crystalline waters of the Indonesian archipelago. This isn’t merely a vessel; it’s a floating sanctuary, a key to unlocking experiences often reserved for dreams.

The enduring allure of Phinisi craftsmanship

Steeped in centuries of maritime tradition, the Phinisi yacht represents a living testament to Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Originating from the skilled Bugis and Makassar seafarers of South Sulawesi, these majestic two-masted schooners have plied the waters of the archipelago since at least the 18th century. The construction of a Phinisi is an art form, so profound
